You dropped the book on the ground and ran into Ivan, shoving your face into his coat while tears formed on your eyes. "Ivan! How come you didn't tell me?!"

"Huh?!" you took Ivan by surprise. "What's wrong? Why are you acting like this?" He looked past you and saw the book laying on the ground where you dropped it. He automatically knew what it was. "Oh…that…"

"You're a country, right? That book is talking about you?" you looked up at Ivan's face, not removing your arms from around him. "Answer me…"

"Da, that is correct. I am Russia, but I don't understand why you're crying like this," he took his eyes off of the book and met your eyes with his. He seemed a bit worried and confused.

"I'm sorry," was all you could say before you started to sob into his coat.
Ivan placed his arms around you lightly to comfort you a little, but he didn't want to get too close because he barely knew anything about who you were. In other words, you were a stranger to him still.

"Sorry about what?" he wondered, keeping his eyes fixed on you.

You once again removed your face from his coat. "You've had such a hard childhood…and I thought I was having the worst of it."

"Don't worry that was the past, and we can't do anything to change it now can we?" he asked. Ivan put his hands on your shoulders and pushed you backwards a little so you would stop hugging him.

"No, we can't. I'm sorry you have to see me like this…" you looked down at the ground to hide your face. He was the first person to ever see you cry.

"It's okay _______," he removed his hands from your shoulders. "Do you want some lunch?"

'Don't try to change the subject' you thought to yourself, but you really just wanted to stop crying so you went along with it anyways. "No thanks, I'm not hungry."

"Okay, but I want to tell you something and you probably won't be happy with it," Ivan grew a more serious expression now.

"What is it?" you wiped the tears from your face and lifted your head back up.

"Actually, let me ask you this first. Since you know everything about me now, would you tell me about yourself?" he knew you didn't want to talk about yourself.

You thought about it for a while, and you decided that you wouldn't tell him just yet because for one, you would just end up sitting in a corner like you always did when the subject was brought up.

"No answer, so I'll take that as a no. Then you'll stay here with me until I find out who you are," and with that Ivan began to walk down the stairs.

'Well that's just gonna keep me holed up here for months!' you whined in your head. 'Fine, I'll stay here, but I probably won't enjoy it. Besides, that just gives me some time to learn more about what it's like to be country.' You didn't realize how calm you were about this, and if you were a normal person you would be arguing about how it's not right to force someone to stay with you. You followed him down the stairs and retreated to your bedroom, which was shockingly easy to find from there.

Once in you shut the door behind you and threw yourself face down onto your bed. You thought about how it was kind of pointless for him to tell you that you had to stay there because you had nowhere else to go anyways. You were probably better off staying with him than on the streets to fend for yourself.

You felt like confronting him about this and got up from your bed and opened the door. You were about to walk out when you started to smell something really good. It was coming from the kitchen and you followed the scent all the way there to find Ivan cooking some lunch.

"Feeling better?" he asked, not turning to look at you.

The smell of the food made you feel hungry and you sat down at the table before answering. "Yeah, much better. So I don't mean to be rude, but there really was no point in telling me that I have to stay here. It's not like I have anywhere else to go."

"So you're just going to use me for food and housing, is that what you're telling me?" he asked taking his food and sitting across from you.

"Well you were the one who brought me here in the first place. You know you didn't have to help me," you felt that this wasn't going in the right direction.

"So you'd rather be alone and hungry without any shelter, that's perfectly understandable. You can go if you really don't want to be here," he began to eat. "In the end I always end up alone."

You couldn't find any words to say to this, and you started to feel bad for not keeping your mouth shut about the whole "you didn't have to help me" thing. You brought your palm up to your face. 'I'm so stupid! I wish I just would've shut up. Now I'm probably not gonna have a place to stay anymore. I can never seem to get along with anyone.'

You stood up and took yourself out of the room, and walked out the front door. You wanted some fresh air to help you think of a way to clear things up with Ivan.  'That's just great, now what can I do? He probably won't want to help me anymore.' You continued to walk around while you slowly got angered with yourself. "Stupid stupid stupid!' You screamed, punching your head lightly each time you said the word stupid.

You stopped walking and sat down on a bench when a brisk wind started kicking in. You didn't have a sweater so you got a bit chilled by its coldness. You didn't know what else to do so you put your legs up on the seat of the bench and closed your eyes. "What should I do?"

*Nine o'clock that night*

You opened your eyes to see that it was dark outside, but no stars were visible. By now you were freezing and you felt that snowflakes were falling from the sky. You sprang up into a sitting position and tried to figure out which way it was back to Ivan's house.

"Shit! I close my eyes for five minutes and end up falling asleep…and now, it's snowing?!" you yelled to yourself. You brought yourself to your feet and took off in the direction you thought you came from. 'I bet Ivan's not even worried about me. He probably thought I left for good, but if that's the case I'm probably not wanted back at his house.'

You proceeded with making your way through the dark, not knowing where you were headed. You began talking to yourself on the way. "If I do somehow make it back to his house the first thing I'm going to do is apologize to him. Then I guess I'll tell him about myself, because it's only fair."

The dream you had while sleeping calmed you down and made you realize that Ivan was probably hoping that you two could be friends, and you figured out what you should've said instead of making it seem like you didn't like him. It was indeed your fault, but you hoped for the best.

After a while you began to feel the presence of houses surround you. 'I hope I'm getting close, I'm freezing my butt off out here!' You slowed down to walking speed and tried to find your way around. Since you could barely see you didn't get very far. You were shivering and your arms began to numb.

"Wh-what if he doesn't allow m-me to go back? What if I f-freeze to death?" you muttered. "It's a-all my f-fault."

At that moment you heard a twig snap behind you and footsteps getting closer to where you now stood. They grew nearer and nearer and you braced yourself for any kind of situation that could possibly happen. The footsteps drew to a stop right behind your back, but instead of being attacked you heard a voice. A very familiar voice.

"Ah, there you are. I thought you'd come back," and with that you felt a jacket cover your shoulders and an arm wrap around you. "Why don't we get out of the snow, _______?"

"Ivan? Is th-that y-you?" you then remembered what you told yourself earlier. "Oh y-yeah, and I'm s-sorry for how I w-was acting before…I'm not u-used to being around p-people very much."

"It's okay, that was the past and we can't do anything to change it now can we?" even though you couldn't really see you could just tell that he was smiling, and you couldn't help but to smile too because you realized he said that line to you earlier in the day.

"Y-yeah, you're right. By the way, were you searching for me this whole time?" you wondered.

"Not really, I only began looking when it started to snow," he answered.

You didn't know what else to talk about, and you decided that you would wait until you were back inside before telling him your story. Most of the way home it was very silent between you two, but you had a feeling he already knew what you were thinking.
Well what do you know, he forgave you after all.
